Equity Alliance Committee

Our Mission

The AFSCME Ohio Council 8 Equity Alliance champions and advocates for equity, inclusion and social and economic justice for members of marginalized groups including but not limited to those based on race, ethnicity, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity or expression, ancestry, pregnancy or any other characteristic protected by law.

The Alliance is a diverse, passionate and visionary team that seeks to be a catalyst of change in our union, in our workplaces and in our communities. To that end, members of the Alliance work to analyze needs and opportunities for change and design and implement equity action plans and strategies for success. The Alliances’ equity plans incorporate capacity building to expand learning and build skills and tools to develop equity leaders, increase member activism and effectuate change. 

The Alliance also works to build collaborative relationships within the union, with employers and with community partners to advance shared social justice and equity goals. The Alliance communicates, tracks, evaluates and reports action plans, successes and improvements to expand its impact in keeping with AFSCME’s social justice values and goals.

Our Code of Conduct: 

AFSCME Ohio Council 8 is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination and harassment, regardless of an individual's race, ethnicity, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity or expression, ancestry, pregnancy, or any other characteristics protected by law.

As such, AFSCME Ohio Council 8 will not tolerate discriminatory, harassing or otherwise unacceptable behavior at any of its activities, events or meetings. AFSCME Ohio Council 8 expects everyone who participates in any of its activities, events or meetings to abide by this standard of conduct.

Application to the Equity Alliance:

Any AFSCME Ohio Council 8 member in good standing can apply to be part of the Equity Alliance committee. This committee seeks to reflect the broader membership of AFSCME Ohio Council 8 and the marginalized groups that we represent.
