EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
REGIONAL DIRECTOR - YOUNGSTOWN, OH
Under the specific direction of the President of Ohio Council 8 and in the context of the Council's vision and culture statements, engages in various activities that mobilize, organize, represent, and educate the Council's local union affiliates, local union leadership, and local union membership and to build the union. Supervises and manages staff representatives and clerical staff. Also performs other related duties as assigned.
AFSCME OHIO COUNCIL 8 is relaunching its four (4) week internship program. The program was created to give AFSCME local union officers, stewards, and members interested in a career with the union as a staff employee an opportunity to work with staff and observe them on the job.
Over the course of the month, interns will observe collective bargaining negotiations, labor-management meetings with various employers, grievance hearings, witness preparation, and internal/external organizing campaigns. Depending on the union's business, during the internship, interns may also observe an arbitration or fact-finding hearing or attend staff training sessions.
The internship program is open to any local union officer, steward, and union member who is eligible for paid union release time through their employer.
The four (4) week period of the internship is flexible, and the Council can work with qualifying individuals to determine when the internship will be completed. The council is seeking to initially grant one internship per region.
Please note that as permanent staff positions become available, Ohio Council 8 will give extra consideration to officers, stewards, and members who have successfully completed the internship program for future employment.
