AFSCME LOCAL 1632 SUPPORTS "ROADEO" TO TEST AND IMPROVE EMPLOYEES SKILLS

Columbus, OH - AFSCME Local 1632 partnered with the City of Columbus Public Works Department to organize a "Roadeo" event. The competition, held over two days at the Columbus Training Yard on W. 25th Street, tested employees' snow removal and equipment operation skills, focusing on speed and minimizing property damage. AFSCME Local 1632 President Will Harmon shared that the event offered members a chance to improve their skills while enjoying a fun, collaborative environment with colleagues. The event marked a successful partnership between city management, employees, and AFSCME Local 1632.

GETTING READY FOR SNOW SEASON

Public Works employees competed against each other in single- and double-axle trucks, similar to those used in snow emergencies. The trucks, loaded with gravel and stone to simulate the weight of salt, were tested on removing snow and de-icing narrow roadways, tight corners, and neighborhood cul-de-sacs with challenging curbs and mailboxes.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS AND TEAMS RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR EXCELLENCE

AFSCME members who competed individually and in teams at the "Roadeo" were celebrated in an awards ceremony hosted by AFSCME Local 1632 and the city. Honors included awards for rookie drivers, an overall champion, and the top team. Congratulations to all participants—yourdedication to keeping our communities safe and roads clear is greatly appreciated.
