CLEVELAND - AFSCME Ohio Council 8 Participates in a Collective Bargaining Seminar for High School Students In August 2024,
Cleveland-area high school students had the opportunity to learn about collective bargaining and union rights.
AFSCME Ohio Council 8 Cleveland Regional Director Marquez Brown, who served as a presenter at the event, shared why it was meaningful for him to participate in this one-day seminar. "To see students in high school grasping the concepts [of labor and collective bargaining]... gives me hope." Brown, who first learned about unions as a high school sophomore while working at a grocery store, was proud to contribute to this inaugural collective bargaining seminar.
The high school students explored their rights as workers, the power of joining a union, and how unions promote fairness and stability in the workplace, all while simulating real world collective bargaining scenarios. The seminar empowered them to recognize the importance of having a voice and maintaining dignity on the job. Congratulations to everyone who took part in this impactful event!
